The Land of Bouillon

"Pearl of the Semois Valley", Bouillon is not only the historical site from where the First Crusade departed to Jerusalem, it's the base camp for those who wish to explore this truly magnificent valley, by canoe for instance.

Bouillon is without doubt the most important and most attractive tourist centre of the Semois valley.

Its fortified castle, perfectly preserved, continues to watch over the Semois, which surrounds it. Miles of sign-posted paths invite the visitor to discover the surrounding hills.

Two Panoramas of "Belvédère" and "Ramonette" to be discovered. Guided walks in English can be booked at the Tourist Office.

The oldest and most interesting feudal vestiges in Belgium.
The castle's origins go back to the 8th century. It was certainly in existence in 988. The castle was immortalised by Godefroid, leader of the first Crusade (1096).

It was used for military purposes until 1830. From 1 March to 11 November plus all weekends and Bank Holidays throughout the year and during the Christmas and Carnival holidays - at 11.30am, 2pm, 3.30pm - you can witness a show of medieval falconry with various types of birds of pray, such as buzzards, eagles, owls and vultures.
